Influenza Exposure
NOTICE OF INFLUENZA A RNA EXPOSURE
We wish to inform you that Buckland Aged Care Facility has today commenced management of an Influenza A RNA exposure.
Currently, one resident has returned a positive PCR result for Influenza A, and one additional resident is currently symptomatic and awaiting PCR confirmation. Both residents were initially RAT-negative and subsequently underwent PCR testing. They remain stable, are being closely monitored, and are receiving appropriate clinical care.
Communication with Families
Families and nominated representatives of affected residents are being contacted directly, and daily updates will continue to be provided.
Precautionary Measures
To minimise risk and protect the health of residents, visitors, and staff:
• All staff are required to wear surgical masks while in the facility.
• Visitors are encouraged to wear a surgical mask during their visit.
• Enhanced monitoring will continue for any residents who develop symptoms.
Resident Wellbeing and Daily Operations
• Activities and exercise classes will continue as normal at this time.
• Residents who are affected will receive emotional and spiritual support from our Chaplain, along with tailored activity booklets provided by the Diversional Therapy team.
• Meal service will continue as normal; affected residents will receive tray service and be encouraged to remain in their rooms.
Infection Control Measures
• Cleaning will follow two-step cleaning procedures, including targeted cleaning of high-touch points.
• Strategically placed HEPA air filtration units are in operation within the affected areas of the facility.
We remain committed to protecting the health, safety, and wellbeing of all residents and staff. Updates will continue to be provided as required.
