Outbreak Update
Dear Residents, Relatives, and Employees of Buckland,
We wish to provide you with an update regarding the current COVID-19 outbreak within our facility. At present, five residents in the Thomas Buckland Wing and one resident in the Matron Rothery Wing have tested positive for COVID-19. Additionally, two residents have been diagnosed with Human Metapneumovirus RNA. All affected residents are currently in isolation and are in stable condition.
Considering these developments, the Matron Rothery Wing and Thomas Buckland Wing have been designated as Red Zones. Our staff continue to provide ongoing assessment and observation of the affected residents to ensure their well-being.
We are pleased to report that there are no new cases in the Donald Coulbourn Wing or the Liz Roberts Wing. Regular activities may resume in these areas; however, we will maintain vigilance and continue monitoring residents for any flu-like symptoms.
To mitigate the risk of virus transmission, the following precautionary measures remain in effect:
- Residents in the Thomas Buckland Wing and Matron Rothery Wing are encouraged to take meals in their rooms to minimize the risk of exposure.
- All staff are required to complete a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) prior to entry and must wear an N95 mask while inside the facility. Staff working in the Thomas Buckland and Matron Rothery Wings must also wear a face shield when providing care to residents.
- Staff will use entry and exit points specific to the wing in which they are working.
- Staff breaks will be cohort-specific to ensure separation between wings.
- Visitors must enter the facility through the main entrance, where masks will be provided.
- Visitors and staff attending to COVID-19-positive residents are required to wear an N95 mask and full personal protective equipment (PPE), which must be removed immediately upon leaving the resident’s room.
To further reduce the risk of transmission, we strongly encourage all staff and visitors to:
- Practice frequent handwashing.
- Utilize the hand sanitizers available throughout the facility.
If you are experiencing any cold or flu-like symptoms, we kindly request that you refrain from entering the premises.
Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us at (02) 4752 2500.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work together to prioritize the health and safety of our residents and staff.
Warm Regards,
Pearson Kasawaya
