My Aged Care
From July 2013 My Aged Care replaces seniors.gov.au and agedcareaustralia.gov.au.
The My Aged Care website has been established by the Australian Government to help you navigate the aged care system and find information about the services you need and what you need to do to receive them. The Gateway is part of the 10 year aged care reform package designed to give people more choice, more control and easier access to a full range of aged care services.
Department of Health
Due to recent government changes, responsibility for ageing and aged care has now moved to the Department of Health from the Department of Social Services (DSS).
5 Steps to Entry into Residential Aged Care
This booklet will help you, your carer, your family or friends to understand what residential aged care is, why you might want or need it, and how to go about arranging it.
Residential Aged Care Calculation of your cost of care form (SA457)
This form is to be completed by people wishing to have an assets assessment for the purpose of permanent resident aged care.
Aged Rights Advocacy Service Inc.
The Aged Rights Advocacy Service (ARAS) offers a free, confidential and state-wide service to older people, or their representatives, who are:
- Living in residential aged care
- Receiving Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) or Home Care Package (HCP) services
- At risk of, or experiencing abuse from family or friends
living in a retirement village.
ARAS provides advocacy assistance to support older people to uphold their rights and their responsibilities.
The ARAS website provides more information about the range of work that ARAS undertakes, including advocacy, information and education sessions.
How Aged Care Assessment Teams (ACATs) can help you
ACATs help older people and their carers work out what kind of care will best meet their needs when they are no longer able to manage at home without assistance.
Aged Care Reform in Action
Aged care reforms are being progressively implemented in three phases over 10 years, so our aged care system can be sustainable and affordable, and be the best possible system for all Australians.
